As your family photo shoot nears, it’s time to get started on the packing. There are a few essentials that you’ll need to have on hand for your next family photo shoot: toys/props for the kids. Bring the family dog if you have one. Make sure you have plenty of water for the kids, and don’t forget a snack or two for them too. You’ll need lots of towels for when you get dirty. Make sure that you have plenty of outfits and shoes for your family members to wear. With so many distractions around us, including our phones, why not include them in your shoot, and have the kids all sitting in a line looking at their phones?
Consider how the photo will be shared.
Some families like to take photos together on special occasions and some families do it more often. Regardless of how often you plan to take photos, it’s important to think about what will be in the photo and how that might affect people’s perception of what the photo is about. For example, if it’s a family photo shoot with the grandparents, include the parents in the shot as well for a multi-generation portrait. If its family photos of your kids include a family pet, consider including the dog in the shot, too. Not only does it make it more interesting to look at, but it shows that everyone is included in the picture and not just a single member of the family. Are the photos for a certain area or wall in your house? a mock-up can be made to give you an idea of how the wall art will look in your room.
Consider the weather.
Whether it’s a Christmas card or family portrait, cold weather can make for a beautiful backdrop and an extra layer of holiday spirit. Before you head out to snap some shots, be sure to have the right gear. Consider the weather: Sometimes the skies are covered in clouds, other times it can be snowing outside. Frost or snow on the ground can add to the scene, if its wet puddles can be used for reflections or led the kids jump in them for fun kids portraits. Capture a wide view.
Consider the location.
No matter where you are going, what you wear can make or break your family photo shoot. As such, it is important to know what to pack for your next family photo shoot. Consider the time of day. Before you go out to capture the perfect family photo, it’s important to consider the time of day. For instance, if you plan on taking a shot during the early evening, be sure to bring along warm jackets or blankets. If you are going to go out during the day, it’s better to bring along a hat or umbrella for shade.
